Departamento de Bomberos de Los Ángeles anunció que ofrecerán bolsas de arena tras el paso del huracán Hilary hacia el sur de California. Las autoridades exhortaron a los residentes a tomar precaución y mantenerse en casa si no hay necesidad de salir el próximo domingo y lunes.
Se espera que cuando pase por California, el huracán se convierta en tormenta tropical, pero aun así, estiman que este sistema deje entre 3 a 6 pulgadas de agua y hasta 10 pulgadas en áreas aisladas en diferentes partes del sur de California, incluyendo las montañas.
Debido a esto, el Departamento de Bomberos de Los Ángeles provee bolsas de arena durante todo el año, y en algunas estaciones la arena también está disponible.
Estas bolsas sirven para desviar (en lugar de represar) el agua en movimiento, redirigir el flujo de tormentas y escombros lejos de las mejoras de las propiedades.
